STEWARDSHIP OF VINEYARD FAVORS LONG TERM ECOLOGICAL VIABILITY

With the close attention to vineyard conditions, it is no surprise that Van Duzer adheres to a philosophy of sustainable agriculture. We see our estate as a system of holistic winegrowing and believe that the highest level of fruit quality is achievable only through attention to soil health, biodiversity in the vineyard, and responsible pest and canopy management that relies on alternatives to off-farm inputs of chemicals and fertilizers.

Van Duzer Vineyards has been certified by LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology), the Oregon organization which developed and evaluates vineyards and wineries against a rigorous set of international standards, as well as Salmon Safe and IOBC. In the vineyards and in the production of our wines Van Duzer Vineyards uses absolutely no GMO (genetically modified organisms).

Cover crops replenish soil nutrients,
stabilize the soil and control weeds in
the Van Duzer Vineyards. Mustard, shown
in bloom here, is one of six seeds mixed
and sown between rows. Ecological
diversity is one of the priciples
of the LIVE organization which has
recognized Van Duzer as "Certified Sustainable"
in our vineyard and winery practices.
