Product Description: 2002 Homestead Block Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
WINEMAKER'S NOTES The Homestead Block Pinot Noir is the second vineyard-designate wine to be released by Van Duzer. The 2002 vintage is a rich generous wine with flavors of blackberry and currant highlighted by touches of white pepper, violet and spice. Fine-grained tannins produce an impressively persistent finish. Production is limited to just over 300 cases.
ACCOLADES 92 "Plump and generous, brimming with currant, white pepper and spice flavors that linger beautifully on the fine-grained finish. Impressive for its persistence without apparent weight. Drink now through 2012."
Harvey Steiman Wine Spectator May 31, 2004 "Deep, brooding aromas of black cherry, plum, and cola. Big, warm, and opulent, with concentrated flavors of black fruit and plum. Round and well balanced, with a note of black tea in the long finish. Serve with pomegranate/molasses-glazed roast duck."
Northwest Palate November/December 2004
THE VINEYARDS The Homestead Block Pinot Noir is produced from Pommard clone vines planted on a gentle slope where the original homestead of the Van Duzer property once stood. In recent vintages, the exceptionally pure dark cherry character of this Pinot Noir has stood out in tastings. The 2002 vintage marks the second Homestead Block-designated bottling.

WINEMAKING Grapes from the Homestead Block are carefully screened and hand harvested to ensure the finest quality. As with all of Van Duzer's Pinot Noir, the grapes were destemmed and cold-macerated prior to fermentation for maximum color and soft tannins. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for 14 months in half new French oak barrels, from the Allier and Vosge forests, and half in 1 year old French oak barrels. After 9 months in barrels, the wine was blended then returned to barrels for 5 additional months in order to integrate and deepen the flavors of the wine.
