Product Description: 2000 Flagpole Block Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
WINEMAKER'S NOTES This particular parcel of vines produces wines with an intense mulberry and blackberry character. While it is quite fruit forward, tobacco leaf and chocolate flavors emerge with additional breathing time, thus adding to the complexity. The premier 1999 vintage is extremely full and rich, and this 2000 bottling looks to be in the same mold. Just over 200 cases were produced.
THE VINEYARDS Flagpole Block was introduced in 1999 as Van Duzer's first vineyard-designate Pinot Noir. It is produced from an approximate one and one-third acres parcel of old Wädenswil clone vines located near the entrance to the property. The steep vineyard takes its name from the flagpole which is located at the top of the slope. The grapes from these vines produce exceptionally ripe and rich fruit.

WINEMAKING The hand sorted grapes were destemmed and cold-macerated as is our general practice with Pinot Noir. As with the Homestead Vineyard, the wine was aged in half new French oak and half neutral oak. We use tightly-grained barrels from the Vosge and Allier forests in order to subtly enhance the fruit character of the wine. After 9 months in barrels, the wine was blended then returned to barrels for 5 more months of aging to integrate and deepen the flavors of the wine.
