Van Duzer Vineyards Partners with SOLV for Memorial Day Festivities

May 25, 2007

Holiday Weekend Events to Support Environmental Sustainability

Dallas, Ore. – Van Duzer Vineyards, an Oregon family winery and 100 percent estate fruit operation in the Willamette Valley, announces a partnership with SOLV, a nonprofit organization that works to enhance the livability of Oregon. Together, Van Duzer and SOLV will host Memorial Day weekend festivities from May 26 - 28, including complimentary tastings of the vineyard’s new releases, tours of the new winery, light appetizers and vineyard manager Norbert Fiebig’s notable smoked salmon. The winery will be open from 11a.m to 5 p.m. each day.

Van Duzer will donate 10 percent of the weekend’s sales to benefit SOLV’s important volunteer programs. Additionally, every person that signs up for the new Van Duzer Wine Club over the weekend will receive a complimentary one-year membership to SOLV.

"We are committed to sustainable practices in the vineyards and in our new state-of-the-art winery, thus the partnership with SOLV is a natural fit," said Jim Kakacek, Van Duzer’s winemaker and general manager. "We hope that over Memorial Day weekend, the community will join us in celebrating SOLV’s efforts to keep Oregon a beautiful place to live and visit."

Features of Van Duzer’s Sustainable Winery

Van Duzer’s new winery not only enhances the estate’s existing world-class wines, but it also demonstrates Van Duzer’s dedication to sustainable practices in the winery as well as the vineyard. Some of the winery’s new features include:

  • Cooling roof. A heat reflective treatment on the roof keeps the facility cool.
  • Night air cooling. Fans that are used to exhaust carbon dioxide during the day can be reversed for nighttime cooling in the summer.
  • Supreme insulation. Maintains the storage temperature throughout the year within a five degree range without additional heating or air conditioning.
  • Recycled waste water. Production waste water is recycled for irrigation, adhering to Van Duzer’s sustainable farming practices.
"We are so pleased to partner with Van Duzer Vineyards for Memorial Day weekend," said Jack McGowan, executive director for SOLV. "We appreciate Van Duzer’s commitment to sustainable winemaking, and are honored they’ve chosen SOLV as the beneficiary of one of their biggest weekends all year."
